Today is international stout day — a celebration that started in the US, but something we know a thing or two about in Ireland!
We have a rich history of porter and stout brewing in this country. Many brewers have produced many a pint of the black stuff here over the centuries. We should also be very proud of our current crop of brewers. There are far more porters and stouts being brewed by Irish brewers today than there has ever been. And that’s not just the dry every popular nitro stout. There’s also plenty of porters, extra stouts, foreign export and imperial stouts. Many also add other ingredients for extra flavour, like chocolate, coffee, coconut and many others.
The quality of Irish stout is something we should be singing from the rooftops, it really is world-class. And that’s not just me saying that: McGargles Export Stout recently won the Best Stout in the World award at the World Beer Awards recently. So we really are world beaters!
Now, I’m off to drink some Irish stout!
